Owning a pet is undoubtedly a wonderful experience. Pet ownership provides you with a companion who is always happy to see you and will comfort you when you are upset or lonely. Are you a proud pet owner yourself? If so, you may even consider your cat or dog to be a member of your family and losing him or her would be devastating. This is why it's important to take the appropriate cautionary measures to ensure your pet doesn't ever go missing. One of the first things new pet owners need to do is get a quality pet ID tag with their contact information clearly printed on it. In the event that your pet escapes or gets loose somehow, whoever happens to find him or her will know just who to contact in order to return the pet to their rightful owner. Don't think a pet ID tag could help your pet make his or her way back to you? Think again. The ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) conducted a five-year study on missing pets and published their findings in June 2012. According to their statistics, 93% of dogs who went missing were returned safely to their owner with 15% of those canines being found thanks to their identification tag. It's best to securely attach an ID tag to your pet's collar that clearly indicates your cell phone number, home phone number and possibly even your home address if you are comfortable doing so. Whether your cat or dog is an inside pet only, he or she needs to have a proper pet ID because you never know what can happen. Your pet could get startled and bolt out the door, a service worker could accidentally let your pet out of the house or perhaps they'll find an empty window to jump out of.
